The audio quality has improved drastically from your previous reel, but I feel like you also toned down your performance by a substantial amount out of fear of clipping your audio. In this reel, you feel a lot more restrained, which detracts from the organic feeling your previous reel had; here, it feels more like you're reading from a script than conveying a character's emotions. Play up on the cartooniness of the scene if need be -- your high-energy characters in your previous reel were definitely some of your stronger ones.

Just try to maintain the same level of energy your previous performance displayed. If you can keep that energy with the same quality this reel has, and you'll have yourself a pretty solid reel.

Thanks I will make sure of that. This script were actually more of an audiobook type reel and serious cartoons unlike the last one but I will try to redo the other one with more energy.

You have a fantastic voice for this type of commercial VO, and definitely do a good job of covering the script with a nice, steady pace. My only real criticism is that the audio sounds pretty raw. Try to edit out or at least lower the volume of your breathing between lines - a bit of editing will really push the difference between making this a good reel and making it a great reel.

Thanks! While I am passionate about voice acting, I'm still new at it and need to learn a lot. I'll have this cleaned up!

(Also, I got my first paid VO contract today. I know that doesn't mean much here, but damn if I'm not excited!)

Try to work on differentiating your scenes from one another a bit better. As it stands, your voice doesn't seem to change enough to clearly distinguish from one character to the next. Really develop a strong concept behind each of your scenes, and include music and sound effects if necessary to help the storytelling process.

I did notice that you were able to demonstrate some degree of change in vocal inflection, though, which is a good start. Push to draw as much emotion out of your characters as possible; you'll find it will create much more convincing dialogue.

Best of luck with your next reel,
- Vox

Thank you for the feedback. I'll try to practice more once I have the chance. And thank you for the advice as well. I'll take your words and put it in my voice acting skills.

Thanks again. :)

You'll likely want to add more variance to your next reel. Keeping with the first voice for a full thirty seconds was a bit unnecessary, particularly given that the point of a demo reel is to showcase your acting ability. Aim for a larger quantity of brief scenes to really push for a reel that displays your full range of abilities.

Additionally, you should consider adding a few scenes that include more intense emotion -- something to really showcase your acting ability. As it stands, all of your scenes sound like you're whispering, or trying to restrain your voice.
Get expressive. Really try to get into your characters, and you'll find your scenes will come across a lot more convincingly.

WiFye responds:

The reel is pretty bland and boring, no doubt about that. I've been working on a much diverse and actually "louder" one so to speak. I do appreciate the feedback a lot though. I have no problem admitting I got to get better at it, the big issue I have is basically the last bit you mention. I'm quite horrible coming up with my own characters to emulate so to speak but hopefully in time I'll figure it out.

Thanks again

You do a pretty good job of expressing emotion, but your audio quality is suffering greatly because of your physical setup. I'd advise keeping the mic further away from your mouth; you can always add gain in post, but if you peak out while recording, you can't really do anything to fix it.

malcaraz responds:

Thanks you so much! I will work on it and repost the demo. So tips for at home studio? I use a box with foam to soundproof the mic.
